What is Wintertime Fishing All About?
The winter months here in Crystal River, FL can provide some unique inshore fishing that will be hard to find throughout other parts of the state. As cooler weather starts to set in, winter is upon us. With winter comes our extremely low tides, also referred to as “negative low tides”. This lower than normal tidal phase is caused by the Earth’s closer proximity to the Moon this time of the year. What’s so special about a negative low tide, you may ask? Cooler water temps push the fish into their “winter patterns” of traveling in the various creeks and rivers which make up the backcountry of Crystal River. When the tide falls, there is commonly 1-3″ of water in the creeks leaving the fish nowhere to go but into deeper holes throughout the creeks. This provides a type of fishing some may refer to as “fishing in a barrel”.
Having the proper boat is key to accessing these holes where spectacular fishing awaits. Our purpose built 20ft Go-Devil is made for one thing- to simply get where others can’t. This boat is specifically utilized in the fall/wintertime to navigate these extremely low tides, which make it a challenge for any other style of boat. This is where our boat is set apart as we can safely run in merely inches of water to get to the fish.
